In the summer, you can enjoy the wide bathing beaches and the fresh sea water on a hot summer's day and suck up the cosy holiday atmosphere in the small, coastal towns. In the winter, you can experience the roaring North Sea from its harsher side. When the winds start blowing on the west coast, there's nothing quite like it for atmosphere. Take long walks in the tall dunes and beautiful plantations that face the North Sea, then return home for a cup of coffee in front of the fireplace.
A holiday home on the North Sea is the perfect setting for a holiday or weekend trip with friends or family. At DanCenter, we offer some of the most idyllic and sought after holiday homes on the North Sea.
On the beaches of the North Sea, you will find clear traces of the German occupation of Denmark during World War II in the form of numerous bunkers that still remain today. The Germans built the bunkers in the dunes, but today, most of them are down on the beach itself. Here, you can catch a brief glimpse of Denmark's history and experience this fascinating underground world on a guided tour.
In the big fjords of Ringkøbing Fjord, Nissum Fjord and the Limfjord along the North Sea, you will find rich bird and wildlife. At and around Nissum Fjord, which is home to some of West Jutland's most important bird sites. That is why large parts of this area are also protected as bird sanctuaries.
Along the west coast, you will also find some of Denmark's
most beautiful
beaches. These beautiful, big sandy beaches are so wide that
even though
every year thousands of guests visit them, the beach never
feels
overcrowded. Besides giving you the chance to jump in the
water to cool off
or splash around at the water's edge, you can also play
football
or enjoy some other outdoor activity in all this space. If
you'd prefer a little peace and quiet while
you suck up the sun's rays, you can certainly find
that here, too. You can actually park your car right out
close to the water in many places because the beaches are so
wide.
Surfing - Are you into flying across the surf? A summer holiday on the North Sea need not only be for pure relaxation. The popular area near Hvide Sande is a unique meeting place for all types of surfers - whatever their level of ability. It's the strong west wind that allows kitesurfers, wakeboarders and windsurfers alike to ride the waves.
If you don't have your own equipment or just want to try the thrill of surfing while you're here, there are several places to rent along the coast. In Ringkøbing Fjord, you will find that the waves are a little gentler so this is a perhaps a more suitable place for beginners to master the technique before they try out the much bigger waves.
Tirpitz - The Tirpitz Museum features one large bunker that was built by the Germans during World War II. Learn more about the history behind the construction of the bunker, and also hear the stories about the lives of the people who lived along the west coast during World War II. In 2017, DanCenter´s holidaymakers voted the Tirpitz Museum Denmark's best attraction in in the category "Best Museum" in 2017. Sheltered behind the dunes of the west coast, there are huge plantations, and on the central Jutland moors, wide open meadows of heather. Skallingen, north of Esbjerg, is where the Wadden Sea begins with its characteristic tides and flat marshlands.
Along most of the west coast, there are long, wide beaches with fine white sand and large expanses of dunes. The sea here can be violent. In the Limfjord, the water is calmer and this is where you'll find many child-friendly beaches.
- to name just a few. Bork Havn , Hvide Sande and Søndervig - the unique area where the fjord meets the sea. Holmsland Klit is the long, narrow sand spit that shields Ringkøbing Fjord from the North Sea. Holmsland Klit is about 40 km long and 1-2 km wide. High dunes, beds of heather and lush meadows characterise this unique area between the North Sea and Ringkøbing Fjord. A little further to the north are large, unspoiled areas in tranquil surroundings near the dunes and forests, the type of scenery that Vedersø and Husby are known for. From the 40 meter high cliff at Bovbjerg, there is a fantastic view of the sea and the countryside.
