Funen is an island in the middle of the Danish Kingdom – number two in size of all the islands. It is characterized by an undulating and hilly landscape with a lot of fruit gardens and quickset hedges and the many half-timbered farmhouses. South of Funen the South Funen Archipelago with a lot of different islands of all sizes offers beautiful sounds, bays and coves.
Funen is connected with Sealand by the Great Belt bridge and with Jutland by the Little Belt bridge, and in the South Funen Archipelago small and big ferry boats and several bridges are the connection to the surrounding world.
Along the Great Belt coast and at the southern part of the Little Belt coast you will find fine sandy beaches and calm waters, ideal for bathing. In Little Belt the current might be heavy, so it is a good idea to respect the local instructions. Also the South Funen Archipelago offers great bathing possibilities, and as the distances are short, you can always find a fine and sheltered beach.
The best way to experience the charm of the hills, the quickset hedges and the half-timbered farmhouses is on a trip from Svendborg to Fåborg. North of Fåborg you have the undulating and beautiful hills of Svanninge with steep slopes and deep combes as a result of the last glacial age14,000 years ago. From the top of the hills there is a fantastic view over the South Funen Archipelago and the areas of South-West Funen with a varied flora and fauna.
Funen – Fyns Hoved – North of Kerteminde in the north eastern part of Funen you have the peninsula Hindsholm with a range of small islands and tongues of land like for instance Romsø and Enebærodde. The landscape has been shaped by the glacial ages in Denmark, and there are many natural areas with a fantastic plant and animal life. The low waters of the bays of the Belt are very popular places for the many birds and ducks to breed and rest. On the northernmost point of Hindsholm you have the beautiful nature area called Fyns Hoved with a wide view to land and sea. In the research and experience centre called Fjord and Belt in Kerteminde you can get some very useful information on the environment and nature of the Belt – for instance seals and porpoises.

And in the South Funen Archipelago there are some lovely opportunities for swimming and, since nowhere is very far away, you won´t find it hard to find a good, sheltered beach.
On Funen, you will also find Denmark's third largest city Odense, where the world-famous Danish writer Hans Christian Andersen grew up. In the old part of town in Odense, you can see what Odense looked like during Hans Christian Andersen's time, and visit the writer´s childhood home. Approx. a 40 minute drive south of Odense you will find Funen's main attraction Egeskov Castle, which was voted Denmark's most attractive castle in the autumn of 2017 by DanCenter's holidaymakers. You can also visit Egeskov´s Veteran Car Museum, take a stroll through the castle's many beautiful gardens or try your hand at "Tree Top Walking" at tree top height!

South of Funen, you will find the islands of Langeland and Ærø, which form part of the Funen Archipelago. You can reach Langeland either by ferry or via The Langeland Bridge, but Ærø can only be reached by ferry.

On Funen there are many popular holiday home areas where you can rent a holiday home for your holiday through DanCenter. Rent, for example, a cottage on North Funen or on South Funen or in the South Funen Archipelago .

Shortly after booking holiday accommodation through DanCenter you will receive your booking confirmation. This confirmation constitutes your rental agreement containing all necessary information. On the first page you will find information about the addresses of your holiday home and the key pick up place, as well as a directions on how to find the house. On the following pages you will find the invoice for the stay you have booked complete with transfer order/inpayment form, stating the due dates.
On arrival at the key pick up point, you will be asked to present your rental agreement whereupon you will be handed your key as well as an electricity-envelope on which the meter readings of all consumption dependant expenses (electricity, heating, water, etc.) are to be noted upon arrival as well as departure.
Arrival can take place from 4 p.m. on the day the rental period commences.
If you can not reach your destination until eg. late evening, our local offices will be closed. Therefore please contact us in time to make arrangements with regards to the key and the deposit. All holiday homes are equipped with all kitchen utensils, duvets and pillows necessary for the maximum amount of persons, which the house can room. Bed linen, dish cloths, table cloths etc. can be rented at the local office or online, if you prefer not to bring these items yourselves.
When you book a baby cot, please note that we can not guarantee space for the cot in the master bedroom. If the house description say there is a cot in the house and you only need one, booking is unnecessary.
You can also book delivery of the extras you rent. This way you do not need to drive several times between the holiday home and local office.
Please note that in high season, extras might be sold out. Therefore we recommend you to always book extras and final cleaning when booking your holiday home.
We charge customers a small cleaning audit fee to prepare the room for the next guest, even as some outgoing guests prefer to clean the room themselves. Are such guests still required to pay a cleaning charge? Yes. Please let us explain.
While we appreciate guests cleaning the room themselves, we nonetheless conduct an audit to ensure that the room is in excellent shape. The cleaning audit fee we levy is for the time and effort involved in checking that our cleaning standards have been met, so that we can provide our customers with the best experience.
