The Vejlerne Nature Reserve
The Vejlerne Nature Reserve is Northern Europe's largest bird sanctuary and consists of approx.
6,000 hectares of low-lying grazing meadows,
bamboo forests and brackish lakes. The "Vejlerne" or "Fords" were created in the wake of a
failed drainage project. These days, it is a protected
paradise for birds and bird lovers.
Eshøj Plantation
Eshøj Plantation is located approximately 4 km from the centre of Thisted.
The plantation is a small botanical gem that is home to approx. 150 different
species of trees and shrubs from all over the world and is thus a forest
that is completely unique in character.
At Eshøj, there are plenty of great opportunities to get out and get some exercise and enjoy the fresh air.
The terrain is hilly and the difference in altitude between the
Limfjord and the highest point in the plantation is just 25 m. You can jog but, if you prefer, you can also take it at a more gentle pace
that will allow you plenty of time to see,
hear, smell and sense nature's pulse and rhythm - and will also give you enough time
to discover and observe the natural surroundings that lie before you
ready to be discovered.
Skyum Mountains
The undulating, hilly landscape forms part of the Limfjord coast,
sloping down towards Vildsund. Here, you can find canyons and valleys created by
erosion caused by the melting water at the end of the last Ice Age. There are
17 preserved burial mounds in the area. Six of them are neatly
aligned in a row down over the crest of a hill. The area is protected and, in an effort
to preserve the heath, Gotland sheep are put out to
graze on the steep slopes.
Lundehøj
In Ullerup, a little north of Heltborg, is a 6,000 year old
stone hut, Lundehøj, which is open to guests.

Doverodde, Doverodde Merchant's Farm is one of the Limfjord's best-
preserved merchant´s houses of the period. Today, this grocery store is
an exploratorium that focusses on Thy and the Limfjord. In
the old grain silo, there are exhibits of the geological
events and animals of the area.

where you can discover more about the fish and other animals that the residents of
the area fished or caught around the fjord. Here,
you will also find exhibits that will tell you how
the grocery store developed through the ages. There are also
many other exhibitions and activities to enjoy.

flower petals. From the museum's Jutlandic adventure garden, there are views
across the Vikings´ Limfjord on the North Sea which the Amber Road
crossed close to Sindrup on its way down through Europe. In addition,
a memorial room to the great Limfjord poets, Johs. V. Jensen,
J. P. Jakobsen, Jeppe Åkjær and others has been created at
Vestervig Church
Vestervig Church is the largest village church in the Nordic countries and has
one of Denmark's finest organs with 52 stops, an
experience not to be missed at one of the excellent church concerts that are given. The church
is linked to the legend of Liden Kirsten and Prince Buris, a
tragic love story. Little Kirsten, a
half-sister of Valdemar the Great had a
love affair with Prince Buris, the brother of Queen Sofie.
When Valdemar discovered the relationship, he forced Liden Kirsten to dance
until she died. She was buried at Vestervig Cemetery.
Prince Buris was blinded, castrated and chained to the church wall
just beside Liden Kirsten's grave. When he died, he was
buried in the same grave as Liden Kirsten.
Aalborg Golf Course
The country's second oldest golf club offers you golfing in
beautiful surroundings plus fine dining in the restaurant.
Sebber Monastery
This monastery was founded in the 11th century and was home to 8
Benedictine nuns. But the main building was in fact 'only'
a breeding farm - the nuns lived in Sebber Church. After it
ceased to be a monastery, it was passed on to many
owners - the last and current family, the Tesdorps, bought it in
1958 and has since added, for example, a golf course. In 2006,
it was renovated so it can now be rented out for
weddings, corporate events or ordinary
family gatherings.
