The western part of Sealand – Sealand, the biggest island of Denmark - is a very green piece of land. The landscape of this region is varied and offers a hilly landscape in Odsherred with gorgeous beaches in Sejerø Bugt (Bay) in the north, some totally flat landscapes of fat soil called Lammefiord and Åmose, and finally big forests near Sørø and beaches and cliffs at the Big Belt.
There are many old and cosy provincial towns and ports in West Sealand, and some of them are situated in the head of a pretty fiord. Furthermore there is a lot of small villages.
West Sealand has a long coastline, and at the Big Belt there are several fine and children friendly beaches with low water. Sejerø Bugt (Bay) and the Kattegat coast offer some of the best beaches with fine, white sand and dunes. At Isefiord you will find both coastal meadows and fine beaches with low water, and here you can always find a sheltered beach.
Odsherred is surrounded by the sea on 3 sides, and this is why the light is so special. When the weather is bright and sunny, you have fantastic views as far as the eye can see – for instance from Sjællands Odde to the entire Sejerø Bugt (Bay) and from Klintebjerg to the Kattegat Sea. The undulating landscape also contains many burial mounds and ancient monuments.
At Havnsø in Nekselø Bugt (bay) you will find Vesterlyng, which is the biggest moorland of Sealand. Vesterlyng is a nature reserve, but you are allowed to go for a swim from the fine beaches or to go for a walk wherever you wish. You can also visit the beautiful and hilly landscape of Røsnæs north of Kalundborg. A hiking path ending near to the lighthouse runs along the coastal line of tall cliffs. The point of Røsnæs is the westernmost point of Sealand with more annual hours of sun than most other places of Denmark.
The nature reserve called Hov Vig is to find east of Nykøbing Sealand. A bicycle and hiking path takes you through these fantastic wetlands with an important bird life which can be studied from a bird watching tower.
South of Sorø you will find the beautiful lakes of Tystrup-Bavelse situated in a wonderful, undulating landscape of manors with wide fields and forests and the largest stream of Sealand, Suså. You can enjoy fantastic views over both the lakes and the stream, which is very popular with canoe people and anglers, and since 2003 you can be lucky to find breeding white-tailed eagles here.
